Government of Canada Invests in 4WD Magazine
March 01, 2010
KELOWNA, British Columbia – On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Ron Cannan, Member of Parliament (Kelowna–Lake Country), today announced funding for APV Publishing, which publishes 4WD magazine. This funding will help support 4WD in the writing and editing of its publication. 4WD, published seven times a year, is distributed through subscriptions and newsstand sales. It covers the world of trucks and off-road vehicles both in Canada and the United States. “Our Government is proud to invest in magazines that speak to Canadians’ interests and passions,” said Minister Moore. “4WD appeals to motoring enthusiasts. Its new full-colour format will further increase its popularity.” “The magazine sector is highly competitive, and support from the Government of Canada is welcome,” said Mr. Cannan. “I am proud that we continue to provide assistance through the Canada Magazine Fund for local, made-in-Canada publications like 4WD magazine.” “4WD Magazine is pleased to have received support from the Government of Canada since 1999,” said Albert Vandervelde, the publisher. “The funding allows us to manage our travel budget to reach all of our readers Canada-wide and to keep our subscription rates competitive with US publications.” The Government of Canada has provided funding of $21,070 through the Support for Editorial Content component of the Canada Magazine Fund. In February 2009, the Government announced that it would maintain its support for Canadian magazines through the creation of the Canada Periodical Fund, a modern, streamlined program that will replace the Canada Magazine Fund and the Publications Assistance Program. This new fund, which recently launched its Aid to Publishers component, will continue to invest in periodicals like this one to increase the overall health of the Canadian magazine and non-daily newspaper industries. |
