Kelowna, BC – On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Ron Cannan, Member of Parliament for Kelowna-Lake Country, today announced funding for Wood Lake Publishing Inc. under the publishing support funding stream of the Canada Book Fund.
“The Canadian book publishing industry is an important component of Canada’s economy and contributes thousands of jobs to the arts and culture sector,” said Minister Moore. “Our Government continues to support Canadian authors and publishers to ensure that this sector remains strong and that readers everywhere continue to have access to talented Canadian authors and their works.”
“Over twenty years ago, Wood Lake started out as a small kitchen table operation and now publishes over 1 million books bringing readers a unique, accessible Canadian perspective on the world around them. Our Government is proud to support Wood Lake Publishing Inc. and I wish them continued success in this fast changing industry,” said Mr. Cannan.
“We were extremely pleased to learn that Wood Lake Publishing Inc. will once again receive funding through the Canada Book Fund program,” said Michael Schwartzentruber, President of Wood Lake Publishing Inc. “The publishing industry in Canada is facing several significant challenges, among them the need to navigate a paradigm shift in terms of new forms of book publishing and new distribution and delivery channels. During these turbulent times, it is reassuring that the government has chosen to continue to support book publishers as a whole, as publishing represents such an important cultural industry. For Wood Lake Publishing in particular, government funding is essential for the maintenance of our book publishing program, so this is welcome news indeed,” he said.
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $46,953.00 through the Support for Organizations funding stream of the Canada Book Fund (CBF). The principal objective of the CBF is to ensure access to a diverse range of Canadian-authored books in Canada and abroad. The Fund seeks to achieve this objective by fostering a viable Canadian book industry that publishes and markets Canadian-authored books.
