Kelowna Cenotaph Upgrade Project
July 21, 2006

Ron Cannan, Member of Parliament for Kelowna-Lake Country, is pleased to announce that Federal Veterans Affairs Minister Greg Thompson (New Brunswick Southwest) will be in Kelowna on Tuesday, July 25, to attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Kelowna Cenotaph Upgrade Project.

The groundbreaking ceremony will commence at 3:00PM in the Veendam Gardens area of City Park. All are welcome to attend.

Mr. Cannan stressed the importance of the Kelowna Cenotaph Upgrade Project.

“Currently the Veendam Gardens Cenotaph only recognizes those that gave their lives in WWI, while a nearby arbour recognizes the contributions of local soldiers in WWII,” Cannan said. “A single Cenotaph honouring veterans of all Canada’s wars is well needed and long overdue.”

Cannan also noted the active role members of the local community played in upgrading the Cenotaph.

“The Board of Directors of the Kelowna Veendam Sister City Association, Chairman of the Cenotaph Committee Art Brown, and Ed Dickins have all been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition,” Cannan stated.

Following the groundbreaking ceremony, Cannan and Minister Thompson will be attending a reception at the Military Museum at 4:00PM and presenting a Veterans Commendation Award to constituent Jack Anderson at Sandalwood Retirement Resort.
