KELOWNA, BC
– Ron Cannan, Conservative Member of Parliament for Kelowna-Lake Country today announced that the Intercultural Society of the Central Okanagan has received funding for its Global Citizen Kelowna Week activities celebrating local arts and culture.

“Our Government is proud to support the Intercultural Society of the Central Okanagan,” said Minister Moore. “By partnering with communities to support activities that celebrate our shared history and our rich cultural diversity, we are fulfilling our commitment to strengthen our communities and support arts, culture and heritage.”

“We have a vibrant arts and multicultural community in Kelowna-Lake Country,” said Mr. Cannan.  “Our Government’s support and the support of the City of Kelowna, numerous local business sponsors and many volunteers enable us to experience the cultural diversity within our own community.”

The Intercultural Society of the Central Okanagan has received funding of $37,600.00 to help present the 7th edition of Global Citizen Kelowna to the 170,000 residents of Kelowna, BC.

Festivities will take place February 19th to the 26th commencing with the 6th annual “A Taste of Home” ethnic food and entertainment event which will take place in conjunction with Global Citizen Week.

Information on the Festival’s activities can be found at www.globalcitizenkelowna.org.

"The Intercultural Society of the Central Okanagan and its collaborating partners for Global Citizen Kelowna are very appreciative of the Canadian Heritage grant,” said Co- President and Coordinator Joyce Brinkerhoff.   “The funds will be used to showcase local musicians, photo and video exhibits, ethnic performances and much more all with the purpose of bringing awareness to the amazing humanitarian projects Kelowna citizens are doing globally and how we all can be involved. The goal of Global Citizen Kelowna Week is to entertain, inform and inspire and with the assistance of this federal contribution we are better able to do all three! ”

The Government of Canada created the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
