KELOWNA, BC – Ron Cannan, Conservative Member of Parliament for Kelowna-Lake Country today announced that the Intercultural Society of the Central Okanagan has received funding for its Global Citizen Kelowna Week activities celebrating local arts and culture.
“Our Government is proud to support the Intercultural Society of the Central Okanagan,” said Minister Moore. “By partnering with communities to support activities that celebrate our shared history and our rich cultural diversity, we are fulfilling our commitment to strengthen our communities and support arts, culture and heritage.”
“We have a vibrant arts and multicultural community in Kelowna-Lake Country,” said Mr. Cannan. “Our Government’s support and the support of the City of Kelowna, numerous local business sponsors and many volunteers enable us to experience the cultural diversity within our own community.”
The Intercultural Society of the Central Okanagan has received funding of $29,100.00 to help present its “Think Global- Act Local” Global Citizen Kelowna Festival which will take place from April 17- 24th.
"The Intercultural Society of the Central Okanagan and its collaborating partners for Global Citizen Kelowna are very appreciative of the Canadian Heritage grant,” said Co- President and Coordinator Joyce Brinkerhoff. "These funds will be used to showcase local artists and artisans during Global Citizen Kelowna Week. The focus of the week is to celebrate our cultural diversity locally while reaching out globally to make a difference!”

The Government of Canada created the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
