KELOWNA, BRITISH COLUMBIA-Ron Cannan, Member of Parliament for Kelowna-Lake Country, announced today on behalf of the Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, a contribution of up to $3,200 to the Kelowna Secondary School. The funds, provided through Veterans Affairs Canada's Community Engagement Partnership Fund, will support a historical research course entitled "The Veterans Project" that will involve up to 35 students researching the lives of local servicemen who died serving in the First or Second World War.

"This course is a great opportunity for youth to piece together the life story of a Canadian serviceman," said Minister Thompson. "Our Government is pleased that Canadian youth have become leaders of remembrance in their communities."

The course will see students extensively research the life and experience of a Central Okanagan serviceman who made the ultimate sacrifice during the First or Second World War. Students will then be required to complete a project on their research to be presented in a variety of creative mediums to peers and the general public.

"The Kelowna Secondary School has shown its commitment to remembrance by offering this inspiring course to students," said Mr. Cannan.

The Community Engagement Partnership Fund provides funding to non-profit groups, educational institutions and other organizations delivering remembrance activities and events. Administered through Veterans Affairs Canada's Canada Remembers program, contributions are made throughout the year and encompass both national and community-based projects.
